‘A Virtual Walk Through Time’
Photobook
Touring Exhibition & Talk
Experiencing lockdown, with only one portion of exercise per day, gave me a chance to discover alternative ways of travelling to new destinations. Researching my family tree gave me the opportunity to explore beyond the proximity of my own home, scrolling through city streets and countryside lanes, going back in time to discover the critical pathways of my ancestors, all through the safety of Google Street View.
Using archival documents, letters, interviews, census entries and family photographs, I virtually stepped back in time to visit places in Yorkshire, Wales, Ireland and Australia, uncovering intriguing stories and debunking family myths. From true stories of female empowerment, suicide, love, a battle and a pet monkey, the journey enfolded.
There will be an opportunity to view the photobook and artefacts, ask questions and discuss ideas for your own research.
